Parking in Saint-Malo: my guide (and hotels with parking)

By Pauline Péret · Rédactrice — accès & stationnement

If I had to give one piece of advice to anyone coming to Saint-Malo by car, it would be this: sort out parking before anything else. The Intra-Muros is pedestrian, the seafront fills up as soon as the weather's fine, and I've seen too many friends circle for half an hour with suitcases in the boot.

Why it's so complicated

The Intra-Muros can only be crossed on foot: you don't park your car there. On Le Sillon, surface spaces go fast and cost a lot in season. Result: without a plan, you lose time and your calm right from the start.

My strategy: a hotel with parking

The solution I use every single time is to book a hotel with its own parking — a locked garage, private parking, or failing that, parking in the immediate vicinity. You drop the car off once and for all, and do everything on foot afterwards.

What I get asked most

Can you really park inside the Intra-Muros?

No, unless you're staying at one of the rare hotels with a garage (San Pedro) or private parking (Quic en Groigne). Otherwise, head for the public car parks at the foot of the ramparts.

Is hotel parking free?

Not always: some hotels include it, others charge for it. I always check when I book.
